N-400 Processing Time Boston, Massachusetts

According to the USCIS, the current N-400 processing time in Boston, Massachusetts is between 9.5 and 14 months.[i] See:

US Citizenship Naturalization Timeline

  • 08/17/20 – Receipt
  • 09/28/20 – Biometrics Reuse Notification
  • 11/10/20 – Interview Scheduled
  • 12/14/20 – Interview Held
  • 12/14/20 – Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, recommended to be approved.

During the interview, the applicant was asked the following Civics (History and Government) questions from the 2008 version of the naturalization test:

  1. There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them.
  2. Who is the Commander in Chief of the military?
  3. What is one reason colonists came to America?
  4. What ocean is on the West Coast of the United States?
  5. What is the capital of the United States?
  6. What is the highest court in the United States?

For the English portion of the naturalization test, the applicant was asked to read and write the following in English:

  • Read: Who lives in the White House?
  • Write: The President lives in the White House.

Individuals who filed an n400 form citizenship application before December 1, 2020, are being tested under the 2008 version of the civics test. Under the 2008 version of the naturalization test, applicants must correctly answer 6 of 10 questions (out of 100 total questions).

Individuals who filed a naturalization application on or after December 1, 2020are required to take the 2020 version of the civics test. Under the new version of the citizenship test, applicants must correctly answer 12 of 20 questions (out of 128 total questions) to pass.
