Today, I spent 5.5 hours at the Boston Field Office for a naturalization interview.
After an hour or so of waiting to be called for the interview, the government came out and told us that the interview had to be cancelled and rescheduled due to a “technical issue.”
I said we’d wait.
Hours later, the Field Office supervisor came out and recommended that we leave (again).
I asked to speak with the Field Office Director.
Hours later, the government agreed to conduct the interview. The applicant passed all three tests (reading, writing, and civics). . . .
Although the applicant was not able to attend a same-day oath ceremony (because of the technical issue), we made great strides on the naturalization application process.
Find a lawyer that will advocate for you throughout the entire process. Sometimes, it helps to have an extra somebody in your corner.

In October 2019, I met with clients at my virtual office to discuss marriage-based immigration. We pledged to celebrate at the fancy steakhouse below my office when a green card was issued.
After a long and complicated process, the green card was finally issued in October 2021. Although the clients have since moved away, we’re celebrating in their honor (compliments of them)!!
Thank you, JJDS ️

Are you curious to know what happens at a green card interview?
.
The beginning is very much like going to the RMV; you present the interview appointment notice to the USCIS agent, receive a number, then wait. Once called, the USCIS officer either takes both parties back to an interview room together, or brings them back one at a time. Before the interview begins, the USCIS officer places the parties under oath, then collects government-issued IDs to verify identity. The USCIS may collect the foreign nationals fingerprints and capture a photo. During the actual interview, the USCIS officer verifies the information submitted in the forms, then asks questions about the couple’s relationship, i.e., meeting, engagement, wedding, honeymoon, living arrangements, work schedules, hobbies, etc. In total, the interview generally lasts 20-30 minutes per person or half hour combined.

Reviews like this make all the hard work worth it!
.
This client received a Notice of Continuance on a N-600, Application for Certificate of Citizenship. A Notice of Continuance is a written request from the USCIS for additional information or documentation. In this specific Notice of Continuance, the USCIS forgot to include a list of what additional information and/or documentation was needed to complete the processing of the N-600 application, i.e., “Administrative Error.”
.
I was able to conference call the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services on Friday, escalate the issue to a Tier II officer in the USCIS, and have the administrative error corrected by Monday. Once a corrected Notice of Continuance was electronically delivered, the client was able to quickly upload the requested document to her USCIS online portal. The government should resume processing the application!

“Dayna is the best and worth every penny! I had a long complicated immigration process and I can’t imagine working on it with anyone else. You will be very happy if you choose to work with Dayna!”
.
I helped this #happyclient with a marriage-based green card (by filing an immigrant visa petition (in the US) followed by an online immigrant visa application via consular processing (abroad in Bermuda)). 🌎

The USCIS recently adopted a new mission statement, so I thought it would be a good time to shed some light on my own!
.
“The work of USCIS makes the possibility of America a reality for immigrants, the communities and economies they join, and the nation as a whole. At USCIS, we know that every time we grant an immigration or naturalization benefit, we are fostering the opportunity to help us build a stronger America. And when we offer refuge to those in need of protection we are living up to our nation’s highest ideals.” – USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou
.
I am proud that my mission statement aligns with that of the USCIS. To read the agency’s new mission statement, visit their website!

Poll Time!
.
Do you think the U.S. government issues the physical green card after the interview appointment?
.
The answer is… no! In my experience, the USCIS interviewing officer generally recommends the green card for approval at the time of the interview appointment. Based on this recommendation, the USCIS then orders the green card to be produced later that same day. Within a week, I generally receive notifications that both: (1) the USCIS mailed the green card, and (2) the USPS delivered the green card to the address on file.
