USCIS Waiving Interviews 2023

In 2023, the USCIS has waived almost 100% of my marriage-based green card interviews!! It appears that the Boston and Lawrence Field Offices are, fast and furiously, trying to clear their backlog by bringing couples into the field office for an interview.
As an active immigration lawyer, I first noticed that the USCIS Boston Field Office was approving marriage-based green cards without an interview in November 2022.
The timeline for that marriage-based green card was as follows:
- 5/5/21 – Filed
- 5/6/21 – Received
- 12/1/21- Combo EAD/AP Approval
- 11/16/22 – Approval
Since November 2022, the USCIS has routinely been approving my green card cases without interview. This includes cases not only at the USCIS Boston and Lawrence Field Offices, but also at USCIS field offices in California, North Carolina, New Mexico, and other states.
The timeline for my most recently approved marriage-based green card (without an interview) is as follows:
- 5/4/22 – Filed
- 5/11/22 – Received
- 6/14/22 – Biometrics
- 6/16/22 – Deficiency Notice
- 6/16/22 – EAD Approval
- 2/27/23 – RFE for Sealed Medical
- 3/17/23 – Sealed Medical Received
- 3/21/23 – Approval
It appears that the USCIS is consistently approving I-485 applications within a week or so of receiving the requested medical exam.
