Diversity Visa Lottery 2023 – Registration Opens Today!

The online registration for the 2023 Diversity Lottery opens today, October 6, 2021, at 12:00 (noon) EDT. There is no cost to register!
The Diversity Lottery is a statutory program which permits the issuance of 55,000 immigrant visas to individuals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States.
Diversity Visa Lottery Countries – What Countries Are Included?
A complete list of countries eligible to enter in the diversity lottery is provided in the Instructions for the 2023 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV-2023).
Eligibility for Diversity Visa Lottery – What Are The Requirements?
- Natives of countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States (see above, link to country list); and
- Individuals with at least a high school education or its equivalent, e., successful completion of a 12-year course of formal elementary or secondary education; OR
- Individuals with two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience to perform.
Applying for Diversity Visa Lottery – What Are The Steps?
To apply for the diversity lottery, individuals must visit www.dvprogram.state.gov and submit an Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form (E-DV Entry Form or DS-5501). A unique confirmation number is generated after successful submission.
Results for Diversity Visa Lottery 2023 – When Will You Know If You’re Selected?
Beginning May 8, 2022, diversity lottery applicants will be able to check the status of their entry by visiting the Entrant Status Check section of www.dvprogram.state.gov and entering their unique confirmation number.
The Department of State will NOT mail notification letters or notify selectees by email. Entrant Status Check on the E-DV website is the ONLY means by which the Department of State notifies selectees of their selection. Therefore, it is imperative for individuals to monitor the Entrant Status Check.
Selected in Diversity Visa Lottery – What Are The Next Steps?
If selected for the diversity lottery, an individual physically present in the United States may be eligible to adjust status to obtain a green card through the diversity lottery program. Selected individuals overseas must complete Form DS-260, Online Immigrant Visa Application, submit supporting documents and attend an immigrant interview.
The registration period will be open until November 9, 2021 at 12:00 (noon) EST.
