How Long Does It Take to Get a Naturalization Interview Scheduled?
A client recently asked me, “Based on your recent cases, how long have you seen it usually take for naturalization interviews to be scheduled?”
Instead of giving a broad, conservative estimate like “six months to a year,” I leaned into the data from my own recent cases to provide a much more accurate picture.
What the Data Shows
Looking at naturalization cases filed since January of this year, here’s what I have observed:
- Fastest timeline: About 1 month from filing to interview scheduling.
- Slowest timeline: Around 5 months from filing to interview scheduling.
- Most common range: 2.5 to 3.5 months between filing and receiving an interview date.
Here are some real examples from my recent cases:
- Case filed 1/13/25 → interview scheduled 3/16/25 → about 2 months
- Case filed 3/19/25 → interview scheduled 4/7/25 → about 1 month
- Case filed 5/16/25 → interview scheduled 8/18/25 → about 3 months
- Case filed 7/16/25 → interview scheduled 9/15/25 → about 2 months
- A few outliers stretched closer to 5 months, but those were the exception.
Bottom line: Based on recent experience, naturalization interviews are typically being scheduled within 3 months of filing. This conclusion reflects cases handled across multiple states, including: Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, Arizona, Illinois, Texas, and New Jersey.
Why This Matters
Timelines can vary depending on USCIS workload, your local field office, and the specifics of your case. But rather than relying on overly broad estimates, I believe it’s important to provide clients with the most accurate, data-driven outlook possible. This helps with planning, preparation, and peace of mind during the naturalization process.
